Hurricane Irma on Pine Island

Good Luck Shines On Pine Island

For two days straight weather reports showed the track of Hurricane Irma heading directly for the Sanibel/Pine Island area. Ultimately, she made landfall south of us and then jogged eastward swerving around our little island. The jog over land also decreased storm surge significantly. We got lucky and had minimal storm damage. This photo is of a downed palm tree – the interior wood is actually soft and squishy, like a sponge.
